The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe

This piece was created for Lifetime TV's campaign for the series Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe. The idea was to feel in to the darker side of Marilyn, to explore the hurt she was feeling on the inside. Showing the parts of her that the mainstream didn't always see. I chose to put her in a padded room, speaking to the time she spent in a mental institution. Surrounded by clouds, is she lost in a haze? Is she dreaming? Is she beyond this world? And the bottle of pills at her feet. While she was such an outer beauty, there was so much in her inner world that never got a voice. This is my tribute to her, and to the parts of all people that feel like they don't have a safe place to express their true feelings.
